You will study a set of core units and then six additional units following the Small Animal Pathway. You will gain the technical skills and understanding needed to undertake a range of duties, including diagnostic tests, medical treatments and minor surgical procedures under veterinary direction.
This course equips you with the skills and knowledge to become a qualified and registered Veterinary Nurse. It will train you in all the practical and theoretical aspects that enable you to enter the profession.
To get on the course you will need five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent. These passes must include English Language, Maths and a science subject. To be eligible for this course you will need to be in relevant employment and be supported by your employer.
To become a qualified Veterinary Nurse, you must complete 94 weeks of work in an approved training practice (veterinary surgery) in addition to the units studied at the College. Your total training time including college and practice work must equate to 3,290 hours.
Candidates will need to have access to suitable work experience in a clinical veterinary practice that is registered as a training practice.

A clinical coach will be provided to monitor your progress, which will be recorded on the Nursing Progress Log (NPL). After successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to join the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Register of Veterinary Nurses. This will entitle you to practise as a qualified veterinary nurse.
