The course has been designed to give each student various options for their future career in law enforcement. There are two themes running throughout the degree; policing and intelligence.
This award is about ‘policing’ and ‘intelligence’ but not just the operational side to policing. Your programme of study will address a wide array of occupations beyond the police force which require graduates with an in depth knowledge of intelligence and analysis, forensic investigative skills, digital policing, knowledge of criminal law, knowledge of intelligence relating to various aspects of terrorism and counter terrorism, appreciation of mental health, cyber security and wider understanding of the social context in which policing is conducted.
The professionally focused nature of this programme is designed not only to provide knowledge and skills sufficient to gain employment in policing and other security and law enforcement areas, but to also establish a firm foundation upon which to build a career.

In this module, you will work collaboratively with other students on a project that reflects an area of shared interest relating to the broad themes of Business, Law or the Social Sciences. You will have the opportunity to work as a small team to devise, design and plan a project relating to a topic of shared interest. In many aspects of life and work, teamwork and collaboration are the norm to solve real world-problems. This group-based project will allow you to develop a range of skills, including leadership skills, time-management, negotiation, communication, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. By investigating and responding to a complex question, challenge or problem, you and your group will acquire a deeper knowledge of your topic. The module will conclude with a conference, where your group’s project will be presented to the other groups in your class.

Students will explore the function of police powers and the need for clear rules and regulations for police procedures when dealing with the public. There is a particular focus on stop search and the challenges inherent with this type of occurrence. The module enables students to appreciate the importance of community engagement and understand how to foster effective community relationships. Students will become familiar with the main sources of information and academic research about police powers and procedure and be able to use these materials for research purposes.

The module enables students to appreciate the importance of conducting and exercising police powers and procedures fairly and without bias. Students will become familiar with the main sources of information and academic research regarding national policing strategies and be able to use these materials for research purposes.

In this module you will be introduced to the fundamental principles common to modern programming languages so that you are well prepared to learn to write programs in a variety of languages. Principles include: problem solving, algorithm design and construction (sequence, selection, iteration, object and activity diagrams), variables, data types, assignment operators, logic, the fundamentals of object orientation (objects and classes, attributes and methods, encapsulation), programming pragmatics (style, testing, debugging), and simple data structures (arrays and lists).

The module examines the notion of rights, with particular reference to the rights enshrined in the Human Rights Act 1998. The legal issues arising from claims that human rights have been infringed are examined in the context of case law. This in turn illustrates the relevant legal principles that are applied and remedies available for infringement.
