Interested in a career in business or banking, with a specific focus to China, one of the most important and dynamic economies in the world? Then this programme is suited to you. Students will take modules in accounting, finance, managerial economics, marketing, corporate governance, research methods and international business strategy together with modules that draw on SOAS’s specialist knowledge of historical and cotemporary perspectives on China’s economic development. Additionally, students will take three modules in Mandarin Chinese. Students will also have the opportunity to take approved modules from other SOAS departments, such as Law, Politics, Economics and Languages and Cultures of China, providing a rich inter-disciplinary learning environment. Students will spend the third year of study in China furthering language proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and understanding of local business practices and culture.

Course programme
PLEASE NOTE: If you are a current student and enrolled on this programme prior to 2018/19, you can find the relevant programme structure here.
This is a 4-year programme. You will spend 3 years studying on campus, while normally spending Year 3 overseas in China at a partner institution. Students take 120 credits per year composed of core and optional modules, which allows for students to design their own intellectual journey while maintaining a strong grasp of the fundamentals.
The programme has been designed so that second and third year modules build on modules taken in earlier years. In your final year you will complete an Independent Study Project or Dissertation on an agreed topic in International Management (China) and take further units in management and Chinese language.

Year ThreeStudents will usually spend Year 3 at a partner institution in China.
Year Four- Independent study project in international management
- Chinese 5 (Intermediate Business Chinese)
Students may be placed in a different Chinese language module to the above if their Year Two language module was of a more advanced level than Chinese 2 155900829
