This is a course which looks at the English Legal System, Criminal and Consumer Law.
What does the course consist of?
There are no exams. The course is assessed entirely through a number of coursework assignments.
Unit 1: An introduction to the English Legal System
This will involve a study of Barristers, Solicitors, Legal Executives, Judges and the Jury. You will also learn about how the Criminal and Civil process operates, and the types of offences in Criminal Law.
Unit 2: An introduction to Criminal Law and Procedure
You will be able to explain the different types of crime such as assault, battery, theft, robbery and burglary. You will find out about the role of the Crown Prosecution Service. You will also learn about the different types of sentence including custodial and community sentences.
Unit 3: An introduction to aspects of Consumer Protection
This looks at how Consumer Law is relevant to everyday situations. You will find out about what a contract is. Can you return goods if they are defective? What rights do you have when you buy a product which is not of satisfactory quality?
What else do I need to know?
There will be a variety of activities including power point presentations and research based work. The course looks at law in a practical way rather than a theoretical way. This course combines well with other subjects. It is especially useful for a career involving law.
