The aim of this workshop is to ensure that candidates have the appropriate communication skills and knowledge of conflict management to enable them to demonstrate a problem-solving approach to dealing with difficult situations. This workshop is designed to develop the skills required be able to recognise a situation where there is a risk of conflict, decide on an appropriate solution and then act. Suitable for: Members of staff or individuals who deal directly with others in potentially hostile situations and who may be required to deal with difficult people on a regular basis. The workshop would benefit anyone who, by virtue of their employment, has to deal with potentially difficult people and hostile situations.

The workshop is based on the learning conducted during the SIA Door Supervision Licensing unit 2, and provides staff with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to be prepared to deal with any conflict situations that may arise.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop delegates will be better able to:
- Discuss communication skills and conflict management
- State the importance of customer care
- State the need to calm difficult situations and avoid violence
- State what risks can occur during violence at work
- Identify the most common conflict flashpoints
All delegates will be presented with a certificate of competence and relevant handouts.
This workshop comprises three levels:
Level One is aimed at personnel who only require an overview of the topic and key issues
Level Two provides the delegate with additional communication methods whilst still developing skills gained at Level One
Level Three is aimed at personnel who, by virtue of their role within the organisation, require a more in depth study of the issues surrounding conflict management and associated issues and who may wish to accredit their learning to SIA Licensed qualifications at a later date.
Participants must complete Level Three to achieve the Edexcel (BTEC) Level 2 Award.
Course Duration
- The Level One workshop is delivered over a half day session
- The Level Two workshop is conducted over a full day
- The Level Three workshop is conducted over two full days
Number of Participants
The course is limited to a maximum of 12 delegates in any single session.
