Information about the course
The CMS course is designed to help develop your managerial performance whilst working in the Public, Private or Charitable sectors by equipping you with an uptodate business qualification.
Course content
It is largely an open access course for practising managers or supervisors who are responsible for the work of others. The CMS course is delivered on Tuesdays during college term times, from 1.45 - 8.30pm. Outside the lessons, you should expect to spend approximately 4 hours a week studying at home, but this amount varies according to how quickly you learn.
The aims of the course are to:

The CMS provides a firm grounding in key management issues with a range of tools and techniques you can apply in your role as a manager or supervisor.

When will I receive my results?
Tutors aim to mark your assessments and issued feedback to students within 3 weeks of the hand-in date.
Your final CMS result will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
Assessment
Assessment is through written assignments (essays & projects), in-class tests & presentations to the rest of the class. Successful completion of these gain the Certificate in Management Studies from Edexcel (formerly BTEC). There are no formal exams on the CMS course.
Progression
The Certificate can be used as a foundation course for higher qualifications eg Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (PGDip Mgt Studie) after which students can progress to the MSc in Management Studies or the prestigous MBA course. The CMS also provides a firm grounding in key management issues and a range of tools and techniques which you can apply in your role as a manager or supervisor.
