Age at entry 16+
It is not a requirement that you should have studied media before taking this course. Entry to this course requires a good general education and is dependent on a successful interview. You will normally need to have at least one of the following:
You must have a lively and enquiring mind, a growing interest in media, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. You should have an interest in all types of media and recognise the impact of media on almost every aspect of our lives. You should be prepared to work both individually as well as part of a team and be aware of the commitment that this requires.
The Level 2 Technical Diploma offers a broad experience of media production. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The Technical Diploma in Media is made up of six units which you will complete over the year;
You will be taught by industry experienced tutors and will work in the mature, creative and exciting environment of Media, Art and Design at The Isle of Wight College. You will study in our well-equipped facilities which include; digital video editing suites on both Apple Mac and PC based platforms running industry standard software and related packages. A purpose built TV studio, associated digital video cameras, lighting and sound recording equipment. Practical and theoretical work is delivered and supported through a programme of workshops, lectures, demonstrations and tutorials. All students will leave with a portfolio of completed video work.
An OCR Level 2 Technical Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* – C. Students gaining a Diploma in Media will have access to a range of career and further education opportunities [a minimum average of Merit level required for entry to Level 3 courses]. You will learn and use a variety of skills throughout the course, including collecting, analysing and interpreting data, communicating your findings in different ways, and identifying and developing the links between different parts of the subject.
