What you will do
· Experiment with a wide range of conventional and unconventional materials, techniques and processes
· Explore textiles in relation to fashion, interiors, fine art and craft
· Build experience in fabric manipulation, printed and embroidered textiles
· Learn to use computers as a creative tool
· Learn how to generate, develop and pursue creative ideas in response to a brief
· Build on historical and contextual understanding
· Educational visits to local and national museums, galleries and events such as Origin and New Designers
· Work upon a final project that is individual to you
· Develop a highly individual portfolio of practical work
· Develop an individual style in design and making projects
· Discover future education and career opportunities
Assessment
All units will be internally assessed, with some units being verified through National Standard Sampling by the Awarding Body.

The course is complemented with AS Fine Art in the 1st year. This can be converted to A2 qualification in the 2nd year (subject to agreed criteria of achievement).
What can I do next?
The course will help prepare you for progression onto a wide variety of Degree, Foundation Degree or BTEC HND programmes, employment or self employment depending on your career goals. There are a variety of career opportunities relating to textiles including; employment with national and international design companies for fashion and interior fabrics, working on a self employed basis as designer makers, textile artists, and freelance designers in a variety of specialist areas of textiles, interior design, trend forecasting and illustration.
Successful completion of the course will enable students to take part in the College Compact arrangement to progress to higher level courses within the college.
