Who is this course for?
You will study a range of units that will develop the key employment skills of teamwork, communication, self-confidence, adaptability and reliability that are required within the Health and Child Care sectors. This learning programme is an introduction to the types of employment available within the Health and Social Care and Child Care sectors and to begin to develop skills that are needed to work within either of these industries. This full-time one-year learning programme contains practical units that support personal career development. This learning programme also contains Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT that will allow, on successful completion progression to level 1 courses either within Childhood Studies or Health and Social Care. You will have an assigned Personal Tutor who will help guide your career development. The course’s focus is mainly practical and will allow the student to practise the skills needed for a higher level course. You will be assessed mainly through workbooklets and observation. Daily life in employment requires you to have good numeracy and literacy skills and students work towards completing these successfully through Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT. All students will have Functional Skills support and students will sit an exam towards the end of the year to show how much they have progressed.
What other experience will I gain?
You will gain invaluable experience of being taught by our industry experts who will design your lessons and assessments to reflect the level and the requirements of the sector. You will get many opportunities to take part in projects, volunteering and charity work. You will develop your independent and professional skills required to progress onto higher level programmes of study or employment. There may be educational visits and visiting speakers that will help career development and these may need to be arranged outside your normal timetable. Community involvement is becoming an essential part of employer entry requirements and learners are encouraged to volunteer within the community.
