This qualification is a two year programme of study and is equivalent to two A Levels (12 modules) if taking the National Certificate or three A Levels (18 modules) if taking the National Diploma. The course combines both Computing and ICT and is quite technical in its nature.
What is involved?
The BTEC course provides a good foundation in the concepts of Information and Communication Technology. The course contains a strong element of computing, including computer systems, IT technical support and programming. The course is delivered as a mixture of practical and theoretical lessons.
Will I enjoy this course?
The BTEC for IT Practitioners is designed for those students wishing to work within the IT/Computing industry e.g. those wishing to work in specialist pathways such as computer programmers, network specialists, business IT analysts or maintenance/support technicians. You will cover aspects of all four pathways during the course. You should enjoy problem solving and be prepared to develop and test your ideas independently.
Is there any coursework?
Assessment is through a variety of practical, written and timed tasks; there are no written exams.
It is important that you are well organised, persistent when trying to solve problems and able to pay attention to detail. Meeting deadlines for tasks/assessments is of vital importance on this course.
