This programme will suit individuals looking to work in the construction and built environment industry in roles such as bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers and electricians. Following successful completion of the programme, students may progress onto Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment or a related trade programme in construction. This could lead to employment in a role such as an architect, building surveyor, quantity surveyor, project manager, civil engineer or structural engineer. Some students choose to continue with an Apprenticeship.

Salaries in the industry can start at 20,000 for a trainee, rising to 60,000 as a qualified professional.

Past students have gained employment at Mace, Mansell, Barratt, Blanchard Wells, SC4, Eastleigh Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council and Trant.

Course programme

This full-time programme is run over three days per week, and will require some additional work outside of College hours. Thirty five hours work experience in the industry will be included in the programme. You will have the opportunity to study the following units over one year: -Structure of the Construction Industry -Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction -Sustainability -Use of Science and Mathematics in Construction -Processes and Operations for Low-rise Domestic Buildings -Trowel Operations -Building Services Techniques -Performing Plumbing Operations -Performing Electrical Operations -Exploring Roofing Operations -Wall and Floor Tiling Site visits will take place over the duration of the programme, and guest speakers from the industry will be invited into the class.The programme is assignment based with a practical and applied focus to learning. You may undertake work experience which is regarded as an important part of the programme and students will undergo a week long placement in each year of their study. Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, through assignments and coursework.
