About this course
In order to qualify for this course students will need; *4 GCSEs grade C or above, one of which must be English (or equivalent qualification), *Attend an informal college interview , *Two satisfactory references. N.B. Candidates wishing to progress to Teacher Training will require GCSE grade C or above in Maths, English and Science.

What will I study?
Students will identify the knowledge and skills required to care for and promote healthy development of babies and meet the physical, social and emotional needs of children. Students will learn to describe the role and responsibilities of those who work within the childcare and education field and identify possible signs and symptoms of different types of abuse. Throughout the course students will be taught to create a safe environment appropriate to meet the needs of babies and young children and how to develop appropriate strategies for dealing with children's behaviour. Finally students will be able to identify skills required to work as an effective care team member, describe suitable procedures to follow on suspicion of abuse and apply appropriate observational skills.
How can I progress?
After gaining this qualification students are ready to gain employment as a Nursery Nurse or they can choose to continue study in Higher Education on various degree programmes, (including primary teacher training). The qualification is equivalent to 4 A Levels.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; *Positive relationships for Children's care, Learning & Development; *Positive environments for Children's care, Learning & Development; *Promoting Children's Development; *Reflecting on and Developing Practice for children aged 0 8; *Protecting Children; *Promoting Children's Rights; *Children's Learning Activities and Play; *Research Methodology for Children's Care, Learning & Development; *Promoting Healthy Development and Living for Children and their families; *Promoting well-being and resilience in Children; *Diet & Nutrition for Children; *Social Policy; *Children's Rights; *Using ICT with Children; *Meeting additional requirements for Children's Care, Learning & Development. Two days a week will be spent on work placement in any of the following *Working with children 0-8 years; *Day Nurseries; *Infant Schools; *Nursery classes in schools or *Placements with children who have special needs.
