Description of the Course
The BTEC National Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities thatyou need for work, learning to help you to achieve your full potential. This is a practical 'hands on' programme with each one taught in the context of real jobs and careers in a chosen vocational sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in the sector and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Course content
You will study 18 Units from the following:

· 8 Core Units:
· Developing effectiveCommunication in Health and Social Care
· Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Crae
· Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care
· Development through the Life stages
· Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology
· Personal and Professional Development
· Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
· Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
· 10 Specialist Units:
· Value and Planning in Social Care
· Supporting and Protecting Adults
· Physiological Disorder
· Applied Sociological Perspectivesfor Health and Social Care
· Nutrition
· Research Methodology for Health and Social Care
· Introduction to Counselling Skills
· Dealing with Challenging Behaviour
· Health Psychology
· Vocational Experience for Health and Social Care (requires additional 200 hours of work experience)

You will also have the opportunity to develop communication, numeracy and IT skills and to undertake work experience placements with such groups as elderly people, young children or those with learning difficulties and disabilities. It may also be possible to take GCSE in Maths or English.
