What will I study?
The BTEC National Diploma extends the specialist work related focus available from the BTEC Certificate. The course is for those students who would like to know more about how to make computers work and for those who would like a job as a technician or a software developer.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course students will need to; *Have 4 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent. *Preferably have some aptitude for IT and have qualifications to prove this.

Course Structure
Some modules covered during this course Include; Year 1 *Communications and Employability Skills for IT This unit provides an opportunity for learners to understand the range of non-technical soft skills and to appreciate what other skills and knowledge they will need to develop in order to be an effective employee. *Information Systems This unit is concerned with the information used to plan, monitor and control business activity. *Website Production and Management This unit considers the whole process from identification of need, design, build, upload, test, maintain and review. *Computer Animation This unit is concerned with Computer Animation and the reasons why it has become a prominent feature of the worldwide web and how it is used to create interest and attract attention. Year 2 IT Project This module will enable students to identify an IT project from any area, however the project must have a business dimension and be sufficiently complex to allow planning and management to take place. Advanced Database Skills This module will enable students to fully utilise databases and identify the advantages of using databases. Learners will be taught how to create robust and secure databases to use in a variety of applications including web page design. Computer Architecture This unit examines and explores the fundamentals of how computer systems work. Organisational Systems Security This unit covers the physical security of computer systems as well as software based security using, for example, password, access rights and encryption. Principles of Software Design and Development This unit focuses on the design and development process and would be an appropriate place to start programming before undertaking more focused programming language units.
