Course outline
In this qualification you will gain an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding within the business and ICT sector. You will also develop your personal skills in communication, career planning skills and team-working.
To achieve OCR Level 1 National First Award you will study 4 mandatory units .
To achieve OCR Level 1 National Award you will study 5 mandatory and 3 optional units .
The OCR Level 1 National Certificate has 12 units. These cover:
carrying out activities while working in a team
learning about different types of business
learning why communication is important in business and practising using different forms of communication
learning how businesses use e-commerce
designing your own website
finding out how ICT is used in all different areas of life and work
This type of course is very suitable for students who want to learn about Business and ICT and for those students who enjoy coursework assessment as opposed to exam based assessment.

How you will learn
Well-qualified, highly experienced and enthusiastic Business Studies tutors will teach you. You will learn through a wide range of learning activities including class discussions, group presentations, case studies, business visits, work experience and individual research. This will be complemented by one-to-one tutorials to support coursework assessment.
How you will be assessed
All assessment is coursework based. Students produce a portfolio of work that is internally and externally assessed.
Much of this coursework is based on using information collected through the research of business organisations and through practical experience. Students are also expected to undertake work experience .
Anyone at any age can take OCR Level 1 National Business and ICT. Most students on the course are aged between 16-19 years old.
Other complementary subjects
Students are expected to study key skills in Numeracy and Literacy.
What you can do after this course
After studying for this qualification you may progress to study BTEC First in Business or ICT or any other Level 2 vocational qualification. You can also move on to a Modern Apprenticeship or employment.
