What's it all about?:
The EAL NVQ Level 2 in Business Improvement Techniques is primarily aimed at candidates who are involved in business improvement within a team and other people involved in the business at all levels who require a fundamental understanding of business improvement practices.
Progression:
Progression to NVQ Level 3 Business Improvement Techniques at The College.
Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of programme you will need one of the following:
- Four GCSEs at Grades D to G (including English and Maths)
- A BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
- An NVQ Level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
- Successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart programme
- Successful completion of the E2E/Prince's Trust programme
- Equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience

What does the course involve?:
There is a choice of two pathways within the qualification and you can chose from either a Process or Quality pathway. To achieve a full EAL Level 2 NVQ in Business Improvements, you must achieve six units made up of five mandatory units from either the Process Pathway or Quality Pathway and one additional option unit.
Process Pathway
Mandatory units:
- complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- contributing to effective team working
- applying workplace organisation (5S/5C)
- applying continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen)
- creating visual management systems.
Quality Pathway
Mandatory units:
- complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- contributing to effective team working
- applying Six Sigma Methodology to a project
- carrying out Six Sigma Process Mapping
- applying basic statistics
Optional units:
- analysing and selecting parts for improvements
- carrying out lead time analysis
- applying set-up reduction techniques (SMED)
- applying total productive maintenance (TPM)
- applying problem solving techniques
- carrying out statistical process control procedures (SPC)
- applying flow process analysis
- carrying out potential failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)
- carrying out measurement systems analysis (MSA)
- carrying out mistake/error proofing (Poka Yoke)
- creating standard operating procedures.

Are there any exams?:
You will need to collect a variety of evidence you have produced or worked on such as plans, charts, reports, standard operating procedures or documents produced as part of a work activity, statements, observations and testimonies to build a portfolio. All of this will be under the guidance of an assessor. Once the criteria for each unit have been met, the unit will be signed off as competent.
