Description
The primary objective of the qualification is to improve business performance as a whole. This can only be done by empowering people who make up the organisation; this means the top level management, middle management, supervision and all other emplyees who will have a part to play in improving the performance of business.

Course Length
One Year

What will I study?
The candidate is required to complete the common mandatory assessment routes, followed by the required number of assessment routes from their choice of pathway.

Process Pathway

All five mandatory assessment routes plus one optional assessment route which may come from the Quality Pathway.

Mandatory Assessment Routes

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Contributing to effective team working
  • Applying workplace organisation
  • Applying continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen)
  • Creating Visual Management Systems

    Optional Assessment Routes

  • Analysing and selecting parts for improvement
  • Carrying out lead time analysis
  • Applying Set-up reduction techniques (SMED)
  • Applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Applying problem solving techniques
  • Carrying out statistical process control procedures (SPC)
  • Applying flow process analysis
  • Carrying out potential failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Carrying out measurement systems analysis (MSA)
  • Carrying out Mistake/Error Proofing (Poka Yoke)
  • Creating standard operating procedures

    Quality Pathway

    All five mandatory assessment routes plus two optional assessment routes where one of these could come from the Process Pathway.

  • Applying six sigma methodology to a project
  • Carrying out six sigma process mapping
  • Applying basic statistics

    Optional Assessment Routes

  • Carrying out statistical process control procedures (SPC)
  • Carrying out potential failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Carrying out measurement systems analysis (MSA)
  • Carrying out mistake/error proofing (Poka Yoke)

    How will I learn?
    This is a work-based course so it will be a mixture of providing evidence from the workplace and observation of the learner.

    How will I be assessed?
    Assessment is by production of evidence as a result of work done and knowledge demonstrated.

    Assessment is the process used to check the evidence and includes observing work being done, checking completed work and asking questions to confirm knowledge and understanding.

    The Business-Improvement Techniques Qualifications have been designed to allow progression to Levels 3 and 4

    The Business-Improvement Techniques Qualifications have been designed to cover those people who are: workers involved in business improvement within a team who wish to have their business improvement competencies assessed for certification purposes new employees who have undertaken some business improvement training and are now acquiring experience within a team and wish to demonstrate their competencies for assessment purposes other people involved in the business at all levels who require a fundamental understanding of business improvement practices
