This course runs in 2016/17. Whether you are advising a client on setting up a company or dealing with a complex international business contract, this course is designed to equip you with a specialist understanding of both business law and the wider commercial world.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

All qualifying law degrees are required to cover the foundations of legal knowledge. These subjects are Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Law of the European Union, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Property Law, and Equity and Trusts, as well as the English Legal System.

Specialist areas of study will ensure you have an in-depth understanding of business law in the wider commercial context, and that you are equipped to work in the global business environment.

You will study specialist commercial law topics such as Company Law, Intellectual Property Law, Employment Law and International Commercial Law.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Modules are normally delivered through large group lectures and seminars of 15 students. Seminars are interactive and may involve hypothetical problem questions, case studies and the analysis of more theoretical issues. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress and will be available for advice.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: formal examinations 65%; coursework, tests, essays 20%; practical or project work 5%; group work etc. 5%; presentations, posters etc. 5%.

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

In a typical week you will normally have up to 14 hours of teaching contact with staff. You can meet with your personal tutor or lecturing staff during published office hours sessions, which allow you to discuss problems or help you investigate further topics that interested you in the lecture. A typical week would normally break down as follows:

Personal tutorial/small group teaching: 1 hour of tutorials each week

Medium group teaching: 4 hours of practical classes, workshops or seminars each week

Large group teaching: 9 hours of lectures each week

Personal study: 25 hours each week studying and revising in your own time, including some guided study using handouts, online activities, etc.
