Practical Skills for Business is a structured programme of support for would be entrepreneurs, and consists of a series of workshops and expert start up advice from experienced mentors.

Practical Skills for Business covers all the key areas on business start up and more. You will receive expert advice to ensure you have a viable business idea and learn essential practical skills to help you run your business.

The Practical Skills for Business start up course is divided into 8 modules, delivered over four weeks. The course is structured as follows:

Self-employment appraisal, skills analysis and understanding markets:
1. Awareness
2. Know your market

Marketing, management and operations:
3. Marketing your product or service
4. Selling and customer care
5. Business management and operations

Financial management and administration:
6. Costing and pricing
7. Financial management
8. Financial administration

When you have completed all the course exercises in each module, you will have all the material you need to complete a business plan. Your business plan is a vitally important document that you will need to present to your bank when you apply for financial backing.

After successful completion of the course business plan you will be able to obtain the Introductory Certificate in Business Start Up which is a recognised qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Our nationally accredited start up course certificate will also bolster your CV should you decide to work for someone else in the future.
