ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Five GCSEs Grade D; to include English Language, and an interview.
Successful completion at Distinction including placement of CACHE level 1 childcare
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
THE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Child Care and Education will give you a knowledge and understanding of working under supervision with young children in a wide range of child care settings.
It is equivalent to 5 GCSE grades A* - C, Intermediate GNVQ or NVQ Level 2.
The variety of work placements during this course provides the opportunity to work with children of different ages and develop awareness about the range of vocational opportunities in this field of work. This course is a nationally recognised vocational qualification and can lead to further study on the Diploma in Child Care & Education or NVQ Level 3 Early Years Care & Education.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Students will study the following units:
Unit 1: An introduction to working with Children
Unit 2: The Developing Child
Unit 3: Safe, Healthy and nurturing environments for children
Unit 4: Children and Play
Unit 5: Parents and Carers
Unit 6: The childcare practitioner in the workplace
All units, apart from 1,2,and 4, are assessed through assignments. Unit 3 has an exam based assessment, Unit 5 has a portfolio based assessment. Unit 6 is assessed in the workplace and carries professional reports and evidence.
Related courses include: GCSE Human Biology, GCSE Sociology, GCSE Psychology and Languages.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Students will spend two and a half days a week in college, and half a day of independent study. College classes provide the knowledge and understanding, which help to build confidence for practice in the work placement. This will involve set lessons, practical workshops, Task Based Learning, fieldwork trips and other learning techniques.
In addition to this students will spend two days a week in placement (a total of three placements over the year). Placements will be in Nursery schools and primary Schools. When in placement: - students will be required to work as a trainee alongside qualified professional; complete tasks and activities in order to pass set performance criteria and professional development reports.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
The Certificate programme trains and educates students to work in a supervised capacity in childcare and education in a wide variety of settings:
Primary and Nursery Schools
Childminders
Day Nurseries
Family Centres and Crèches
Private Homes
Special Education
Playgroups
However, successful students will be encouraged to progress to higher level courses that will increase employment potential:

CACHE NVQ Level 3 Early Years Care & Education (Full time)
CACHE Diploma in Early Years Practice (Part time)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If you work with children and young people you are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Criminal Record Bureau checks will be necessary for candidates in placement.
Course material fees £150 + £30 college administration fee (subject to change) +covering trips, placement uniform, text books, art materials. Payable on enrolment. There are occasional day visits throughout the year.
