This course is for you if you are over 21 and are interested in pursuing a career in care and want to improve your skills in ESOL, communications, numeracy and IT.

You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
- Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
- Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2
You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.
What qualification will I receive?
College certificate and external certificate in ESOL and numeracy at Level 1 or entry level 3
Where can it lead?
After completing the course, provided that you have progressed in your Basic Skills, you can progress to a higher level course in health and social care or childcare and education.
What will I study?
Subjects you will study include, ESOL, numeracy, IT, working with people, and caring skills.
How will I be taught?
The course is classroom based but during the year there are outings and visits to further enhance your learning experience.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment for vocational learning will be through assignments and class activities. ESOL and numeracy will be assessed through external tests.
What support is available while I am on the course?
There are individual and group tutorials throughout the year. Also there is one-to-one support available in the college as required, as well as drop-in workshops in communications and maths.
What will it cost?
Age under 19 on 31st August of the year you start your course? Study forFREE.
