What's it all about?:
If you know that you want to work in caring professions, but are not sure whether to work in health care, social care or childcare, then this course will help you make that final choice. It's an introductory course that helps to develop your caring skills and qualities in preparation for progression within your chosen career.
Progression:
Preparation for a vocational career in caring services is the emphasis of this programme; work placement is a key focus in preparing you with the skills and attitude necessary for the profession. If you are successful, this is a suitable qualification for you to progress on to a range of further study at levels 1 and 2, at the College, and can be used as a stepping-stone into employment in the health and social care sector where some previous experience is necessary to gain initial employment.

Duration: One year Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
You will study a range of units including:
- introduction to the local community
- understanding diversity in society
- recognising own skills for personal development
- healthy living
- developing parenting skills
- key skills.
You will also work towards College certificates in health and safety, manual handling, food hygiene and first aid.
When can I study?:
Full-time
Are there any exams?:
You will complete a range of portfolio tasks for each unit studied.
Key Skills will be assessed by an end test and compilation of a portfolio.
