The A1 Award will offer participants a programme of training in skills, techniques and principles of assessing competency using a variety of methods. The A2 Award is aimed at the "front line assessor", where the assessments are through the observation of performance supported by questioning to assess underpinning knowledge and understanding. Suitable for: This qualification will benefit anyone who is, or who will be, concerned with assessing candidates taking National Vocational Qualifications.

Certificate in Assessing Candidates - A1 and A2

These two assessor qualifications are designed to meet the differing needs of people who assess competence.

Entry requirements:

All assessors must have sufficient occupational competence to ensure an up-to-date working knowledge and experience of the principles and practices specified in the standards they will be assessing i.e.

  • Having held a post for at least one year within the last two years which involved performing the activities defined in the standards as an experienced practitioner.
  • Being an experienced trainer of at least one year's standing in the relevant competence area.

And for both of the above:

Demonstrate updating within the last year for at least two of the following activities:

  • Work Placement
  • Job Shadowing
  • Technical skill update training
  • Attending courses
  • Studying for learning and development units
  • Study relating to job role
  • Collaborative working with Awarding Bodies
  • Examining
  • Qualifications development work
  • Other appropriate occupational activity as agreed with the internal verifier

Participants will also have to ensure that they have access to at least two NVQ learners to assess.

V1 Award in Conducting Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process

On average 6 - 9 months
