Introduction:
This Open College of the North West (OCNW) qualification is an alternative to ECDL (European Community Driving Licence). It is aimed at adult learners who may have no experience or very limited experience of using ICT and wishing to develop ICT skills particularly for leisure, home and community needs. It may additionally appeal to self taught ICT users who wish to consolidate and formalise their knowledge and skills without the added pressure of exams.

Study Mode & Location:
This part-time course is offered on a taught and flexible basis and will be held at the majority of our Community Venues.

Course Content:
You will study the following units:

  • Unit 1: Using a computer.
  • Unit 2: Developing and presenting documents (Word Processing).
  • Unit 3: Finding and using information (searching using the Internet, CD-Roms).
  • Unit 4: Exchanging information through the use of e-mail.
  • Unit 5: Spreadsheets.
  • Unit 6: Databases.


Office XP will be used throughout the course.

Assessment:
All parts of the course are assessed, mainly through the compilation of a portfolio. However, two of the units are assessed through external assignments.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Upon successful completion of this course, there is the opportunity to continue your studies to Level 2 by undertaking an OCNW Level 2 Certificate in ICT.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
