This is not an exam based course. These units are assessed through a portfolio. The term portfolio is used to describe the organised collection of a learner’s evidence for assessment. Your evidence, or work, - which you produce as you progress through the course - will be gathered in and marked by your tutor.

When you come along to your first class you should bring along an A4 writing pad, a black/blue pen and some other coloured pens (though not red!), and a calculator. From the first class you will be working on sums so it is better to bring these resources with you to each class.
Assessment Methods:
This is not an exam based course. These units are assessed through a portfolio of evidence which you compile during your classes.

The City & Guilds has developed a separate Candidate Logbook for this suite of qualifications and you will be given your own logbook from the start of the course. However, these logbooks will be stored at the college. You will collect your logbook at the start of each (or some) sessions and return it at the end to the tutor. The tutor sets and marks your work.

A college appointed Assessor then judges your work against the Assessment Criteria for the Unit.

Finally, your portfolio may need to be retained to be viewed as part of a visit by a City & Guilds Qualification Consultant after you have finished the course. However, it will be made available to you as soon as possible after this visit.
