Course programme

This programme is aimed at people working or wishing to work in a health and social care context. 

 

 

It is also appropriate for care workers working towards the National Care Standards at Induction and Foundation levels a well as those working in dental surgeries or in Child Care.

 

Qualification

A nationally recognised awarding body – NCFE, accredits the programme.  Candidates work through the distance learning course materials at their own pace, and at times convenient to them – so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification.

 

Each candidate on the Loughborough College Course is allocated their own personal tutor who will guide them through the qualification.

 

Course aims

The course aims to provide learners with the opportunity to gain an increased understanding of the use of medication and its possible side effects and to enhance their knowledge of safe administration of medication.

 

Course content

The course consists of five units covering:

 

·         An introduction to medicines and prescriptions

·         Medicine supply, storage and disposal

·         The safe administration of medication

·         Quality control and record keeping

·         Accountability, responsibility and confidentiality

 

Course Delivery and Assessment

Learners will be provided with a series of workbooks for the programme that contain activities and provide opportunities for learners to practise their skills and test their learning.  Learners work through the learning materials and complete assessments for each unit.

 

Learning activities and assessments will be based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience.

 

Your tutor will offer individual support, guidance and assessment through the programme and visit on a regular basis.

 

This flexibility of learning and tutor support allows you to complete the course at your own pace as well as gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

 

Progression opportunities

On completion of this course you could progress on to a range of programmes, including: NVQs in Care, Working with Older People, Manual Handling, NCFE Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and Food Hygiene.
