Course programme
After discussing the documentary and archaeological evidence for the existence of toilets and access to water, we consider how a rising population impacted, or not, on municipal efforts to deal with sanitation. While hygiene standards may not have been as high as they are today, existing coroner rolls belie the belief that people did not believe in cleanliness.
There will be an informal PowerPoint presentation with reading of contemporary sources as a basis for group discussion. Class discussion will be encouraged. You are invited to bring along/describe items you have read in newspapers/heard on radio/seen on TV you think may be of interest to the group.Additional information
