Aim of course
This training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. Anyone working in or on trees is expected to hold a recognised certificate of competence. If you are self-employed, the regulations still apply. All training days prepare the course member to meet the required NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) assessment. The assessment day will take place by mutual arrangement after the training days are completed.

What will the course involve?
For beginners intending to use a chainsaw for domestic, business or leisure activities. The course will cover the parts of a chainsaw, routine maintenance for petrol driven chainsaws in workshop and field conditions, including safe starting, pre-working checks, and on-site cross cutting and stacking of timber.

What can I do afterwards?
This course is pre-requisite for other chainsaw and arboriculture courses such as CS31, CS32, CS33, CS38 and CS39.

Equipment Needed Course members will need to provide their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), which must carry current CE markings, a personal first-aid kit and pea-less whistle. You must be fit to undertake this training and ideally be 18 years of age or over.

Fees £390, which includes NPTC registration and assessment fees.
