Course programme
Used correctly chainsaws and their allied cutting equipment are very versatile tools. But they are potentially very dangerous. Serious accidents can and do occur.
Training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require all employers to provide adequate training to ensure that chainsaws are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. Anyone working on trees in expected to hold a recognised certificate of competence. If you are self-employed the Regs. still apply. The only exception is agricultural holdings where work is carried out as part of an agricultural operation and the operator used a saw before 5 Dec '98. Lantra and HSE never the less, recommend training to all operators. Should there be an accident the HSE would be likely to take a more lenient approach towards an employer who has trained his staff.
National Proficiency Test Council. Two day course covering Maintenance and Cross Cutting, followed by an Assessment which will be carried out by a different Instructor, and an NPTC Certificate will be awarded.
This course can then be followed by felling courses for small, medium and large trees, and a variety of arbiculture units including using a Chain Saw in a tree and Arial Rescue. (More information on request) or contact NPTC Hampshire Office - Sally Monk 01962 797478.
