Course programme
This intermediate continues on from our Character Design For Animation short course. The emphasis will be on designing characters that have greater sophistication and performance potential, as well as greater commerciality.
Anatomical functionality and gestural posing are explored further, in combination with the basics of construction, facial expression, acting potential, implied movement, stylisation, and in particular, personality.
The use of colour on characters is explored using studio markers, and examples from character designers such as Milt Kahl, Chuck Jones, T.S.Sullivant, Tom Oreb, and Ronald Searle are studied
We will look at scenes from animated films such as The Iron Giant, Spirited Away, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Hercules and The Incredibles.
Entry requirements: A basic-to-intermediate amount of drawing and/or cartooning experience would be helpful.
Level: Intermediate
