The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) offers a degree-level qualification in Business Management awarded by University College Birmingham. The course comprises on-the-job learning and practical work experience and will provide you with a professional pathway for career development.
This “Trailblazer” Apprenticeship has been developed by a group of employers, in partnership with a number of higher education institutions and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Workers who complete the course will earn an apprenticeship degree in business management and will be eligible to be awarded chartered manager status. Course content is based on the published CMDA Standard and Assessment Plan as developed by employers, who will ensure the training remains current and relevant.
It may take up to four years to complete the CMDA, although course duration will be dependent on previous experience. For example, experienced managers may complete in two-and-a-half years, while those with limited management experience will require longer.

About this course
The degree apprenticeship incorporates a work-based management project aligned to the Chartered Manager Standard, so no additional work is required
Each level consists of only 4 core modules
The apprenticeship is delivered via 6-week blocks of blended learning over a period of 2.5 to 4 years (depending on experience). Each 6-week block incorporates a maximum of 3 full days’ delivery at UCB.
Apprentices are supported by a course manager and a work-based learning tutor
Apprentices get dual accreditation by the CMI for a Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management
An End Point Assessment will be completed to include the submission of a Professional e-Portfolio, and a panel interview
You will study an online bridging module at the start of the course to get you ready for academic study
Individual employers set the selection criteria for their apprentices although most candidates will be expected to hold A-Levels (or equivalent) or relevant Level 3 qualifications. Other relevant or prior experience may be considered as an alternative.
Potential apprentices should have English and maths qualifications at a minimum of Level 2 or equivalent, and demonstrate Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills at this level.
In addition, apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
