Course programme

This A Level combines practical and theoretical elements and includes regular investigations in the laboratory. The A Level will provide you with a solid grounding in key concepts including chemical bonding, materials, the periodic table and practical research. This programme can be taken either as a standalone qualification or combined with other A Levels or a vocational qualification.
You will achieve a nationally recognised AS/A2 qualification in Chemistry awarded by OCR.
The programme includes regular work in the College's science labs as well as taught lessons and self-directed study. For the AS Level you will complete two external assessments of between 85 and 100 minutes each and one coursework assessment. For the A Level you will complete two external assessments of between 90 and 120 minutes each and one coursework assessment. Successful completion of the AS Level is needed to progress to the A Level units.
