This 1 year course is aimed at people who want to work with children and young people. It is a full time course aimed at 16-18 year olds and 19+ learners. It is suitable for those who wish to complete over 400 hours in work placement, are in employment or working in voluntary placements.
It develops the wide ranging knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years old.
It is ideal for those who have already had a placement or experience in a childcare setting and are therefore confident in working with children. For those students who have not had successful work experience with children then the Level 2 programme is a more suitable starting point.

Course programme
Our Level 1, 2 and Level 3 Childcare courses prepare you to work in a range of settings with children or young people or to progress to higher education. You will learn through taught classes and activities and a range of work experience placements. You will study a wide range of subjects including child development, care, play and growth. You will also have opportunities to work in the industry and develop your communication skills to prepare you for employment. After the course you can either progress through the levels to Degree level, onto an apprenticeship or find employment in the childcare sector, including early years educator, nursery assistant and special needs assistant.
The course provides a wide range of taught modules ranging from communication, understanding child and young person development, safeguarding, working together, professional practice in an early years setting and more. You will develop skills to care for others and the responsibilities of working as a professional in a caring environment. This course will be delivered at our Technology Campus and Keighley College. On completion learners can progress to Level 3 Diploma Early Years Education & Care. Students may also progress onto the Extended Diploma which is a further one year of study which can then lead to Higher Education. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
