Overview
Our MA Childhood, Youth and Social Policy explores children and young people’s lives in diverse contexts and related social policy debates. It critically examines current advanced research on children, young people and families with reference to relevant theories and concepts in human geography and the wider social sciences.
This programme will develop your understanding of the key concepts and theorisations of childhood and youth, as well as enhance your knowledge on children and young people’s lives across the Global North and South.
This MA programme will also help develop your skills in a range of research methods, especially those relevant to the study of childhood and youth and attentive to young people’s ‘voice’. You will complete an independent research project on themes related to children, youth and/or families. Our MA Childhood, Youth and Social Policy demonstrates the role of social policy research in shaping wider policy processes and professional practice.
The School of Social Sciences at Loughborough University offers a unique environment to study this subject, drawing on internationally-recognised expertise from Human Geography and Social and Policy Studies. Furthermore, this programme benefits from the ‘Centre for Research in Social Policy’ based in the School who have developed the influential ‘Minimum Income Standard for the United Kingdom’.
