They cover a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas. Learning through theory sessions at college is teamed with work based experience to achieve a Level 3 CACHE Diploma.
Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at students aged 16 or over who wish to complete an apprenticeship in a specific vocational area.
What will I learn?
Children and Young People’s Workforce (CACHE Diploma) Advanced Apprenticeship (Social Care Pathway) units:
The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. The course covers:
- Promote Communication in Children and Young People’s Settings
- Engage in Personal Development in Children’s Settings
- Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings
- Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
- Working Together for the Benefit of Children and Young People
- Functional Skills at Level 2 in English, Maths and ICT
How will I be assessed?
The above modules will be assessed knowledge through written tasks and competency through observations. This is a practical course where students are expected to provide evidence through classroom activity, guided assignment work, practical sessions and workplace experience.
What award will I achieve?
CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young Peoples Workforce. Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Functional Skills at Level 2 in English, Maths and ICT.
What are the entry requirements
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of working with children to support their learning, and development. They will need to be dedicated and committed to their study and be responsible for their own learning. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable childcare setting that can include Nursery, School or Pre-school. For this pathway it must be suitable employment to meet all qualifications criteria. Additional entry requirements include successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification, or GCSEs at grades A*-C. Individuals that do not meet the qualification criteria but do have significant experience within the skills sector will still be considered.
What next?
Possible progression to higher education programmes. Higher education opportunities may include the Foundation Degree in Early Years at Colchester Institute.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
If you are applying for an apprenticeship please use the application form above,
ensuring you complete section 4 of the form. In order to start your apprenticeship you must have an employer
ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
