Children's Care, Learning and Development NVQ Level 2
This qualification is for people who work with children from 0 to 16 years (and their families) in settings or services whose main purpose is children's care, learning and development.Examples of job roles could be nursery assistant, creche worker or special educational needs assistant.

What does the course involve?
To achieve the whole qualification at Level 2, a candidate must prove competence in six mandatory units and one optional unit from a choice of four.

What will I study?
Mandatory Units To achieve the whole qualifcation you must achieve six mandatory units which are: 201: Contribute to positive relationships, 202: Help to keep children safe, 203: Support childrens development, 204: Use support to develop own practice in children's care, learning and development, 205: Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs, 206: Support children's play and learning.

Optional Units You must also achieve one optional unit from the following: 207: Contribute to the effectiveness of teams, 208: Support the development of babies and children under three years, 209: Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs, 210: Support children and young people's play.

What are the entry requirements for Children's Care, Learning and Development NVQ Level 2?

What is the assessor's role?
It is the assessors role to be sure that you have provided and shown evidence for all performance, knowledge and evidence requirements, before they can decide that you have finished a unit.

Do I need to be working in Childcare?
Yes. You must have an appropriate work role to undertake the programme.

What sort of recognition does this qualificatin have?
Edexcel is a leading awarding body and widely respected in the private and public sectors.

Do I get taught classes?
No. An NVQ is giving you accreditation for your work competence by completing a portfolio of evidence. If you are interested in a taught programme you may be interested in one of our full time childcare courses that are run at the Fosse Way campus (see full time guide).

What kind of support will I get through the programme?
You will be allocated an experienced assessor who will visit you on a regular basis to track and support the completion of your NVQ.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment will include putting together a portfolio of evidence, being observed in the workplace, answering questions. These are the main assessment methods but other methods may be included and these will be fully explained by the assessor.
