Children's Care, Learning and development NVQ Level 3
This qualification is designed for those who work face-to-face roles with children and families, who may have supervisory responsibilities, specialist roles or who work unsupervised. Examples of job roles are childminder, day care supervisor and pre-school supervisor.

What does the course involve?
This qualification is competence-based, linking a person's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. This means that a person's skills, knowledge and competences are assessed in a practical way.

What will I study?
Qualification overview To achieve the whole qualification at Level 3, a candidate must prove competence in five mandatory units and four optional units from an extensive choice formulated to meet the learner's needs. At least two must be taken from group 1.

Mandatory units The mandatory units are: 301:Develop and promote positive relationships, 302: Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children, 303: Promote children's development, 304: Reflect on and develop practice, 305: Protect and promote childrens rights.

Optional units - group 1 306: Plan and organise environments for children and families, 307: Promote the healthy and physical development of children, 308: Promote children's well-being and resilience, 309: Plan and implement curriculum frameworks for early education, 310: Assess children's progress according to curriculum frameworks for early education, 311: Provide leadership for your team, 312: Plan and implement positive environments for babies and children under three years, 313: Support early intervention for the benefit of children and families.

What is the role of the assessor?
It is the assessors role to be sure that you have provided and shown evidence for all performance, knowledge and evidence requirements, before they can decide that you have finished a unit.

Is this a taught based course?
No. An NVQ is a qualification that is based on accreditation of work based competence.

Do I need to be working in Childcare?
Yes. You have to be in a current childcare role. You may want to consider full time courses in childcare which run at our Fosse way campus.

What is the progression after this course?
Once you have gained the appropriate work experience and if in a managerial role the next logical step would be NVQ Level 4 or Early Years Foundation Degree.

How widely recognised is this qualifcation?
NVQs are a standard benchmark qualification in many areas such as Childcare. There is wide recognition of the Edexcel awarding body and it is one of the most established awarding body.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods will include observations, written and reflective accounts, question and answer sessions or professional discussions.
