This three- day course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to confidently and safely work with toddlers, pre and primary school aged children, their carers/parents and wider family networks.

About this course

A deeper and more systematic understanding of how a functional medicine approach can help understand and support children’s physical and behavioural development.
An increased critical appreciation of the state of current research around the role of nutrition, environmental exposures, parenting and home environments on gut health, detoxification, immune health, food preferences and eating patterns
Practical guidelines and resources and a greater awareness of where to access additional knowledge, research and tools pertinent to these areas
A greater ability to critique dietary recommendations, tests and supplements and an increased ability to make decisions in complex and unpredictable clinical situations.
For practitioners, a greater awareness and ability to consider safety, legal, ethical issues, and boundary setting when working with children
A greater understanding when to refer or work with other practitioners or medical professionals including medical herbalists and homeopaths and their key areas of support

Who will teach this course?

Kate Delmar Morgan is a registered Nutritional Therapist practicing in South West London. She lectures in child nutrition at ION and works with children and their parents in her private practice.

Jules Cattell is an experienced nutritionist and Clinical Tutor on the MSc Nutritional Therapy course at the University of Westminster. She has a particular interest in children’s health issues and having trained at the Autism Research Institute in California.

Dr Rachel Nicoll came to nutritional and environmental medicine after suffering mercury poisoning which had chronic health consequences . She now brings the environmental medicine into public and academic consciousness and is a regular lecturer on ION short courses.

Christine Bailey is an award winning nutritionist and chef and author of over 14 recipe and health books.

Belinda Blake is an experienced Nutritional Therapist and lecturer with a passion for food and a creative approach to teaching. She has long been fascinated by the traditions behind the use of foods for healing.

Sarah Huges is a Medical Herbalist and a Nutritional therapist who has been in practice since 2006, both in Ireland and the North of England.

Caroline Gaskin is a homeopath and holistic health coach with 20 years' experience.

How will I be taught?

The course will include short sessions of lectures to establish key concepts and scientific underpinnings and help appraise the state of current research, followed by case study exercises, group work and discussions to consolidate learning and encourage critical thinking. Space is limited to 35 participants. You will be provided with essential information, practical tips and take home resources to help quickly implement learning from the course into your work.

Materials will be provided electronically approximately two weeks before the course. If you book less than 5 working days before the course or on the day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the link until after the course. ION will provide any materials needed for group work on the day but not other materials.
