About this course

You will need at least an Intermediate / Level 2 Construction trade based qualification, and/or have at least two years on site in a supervisory role above the level of trade charge hand. You must be over 23 years of age.

Introduction:
The CIOB Site Management Certificate and Diploma is designed to meet the needs of those employed in, or training for, site management. The course is aimed at the mature and practical student. Gaining the Site Management Certificate and Diploma provides evidence to employers and clients that an internationally recognised level of study has been successfully completed.

Study Mode & Location:
Both the Certificate and Diploma take 1 year to complete (2 years in total for both levels). Courses last for 6 hours per week (2 evenings) and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The curriculum for the CIOB Certificate and Diploma consists of 14 modules (listed below). The candidate must complete 7 units to achieve the Certificate and a further 7 modules to obtain the Diploma. Each module takes approximately 30 hours of tuition:

Module 5 - Managing the Quality of Site Work (compulsory assignment)

Module 6 - Managing Sub-Contractors

Module 7 - Health and Safety (compulsory assignment)

Module 8 - Site Surveying and Levelling (compulsory assignment)

Module 9 - Computing (compulsory assignment)

Module 10 - Managing People

Module 11 - Developing People

Module 12 - Improving Managerial Skills

Module 13 - Contractual and Legal Responsibilities

Module 14 - Estimating and Measuring Work

Assessment:
The emphasis is on group participation and mutual learning with guidance from the course tutor. You should be prepared to spend time on private study and coursework in addition to attendance on the course

There are no formal examinations at the end of the modules for either the Certificate or Diploma. However, four modules will be assessed as part of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority approval. The course tutor evaluates your progress throughout each module. If this and attendance are satisfactory (minimum attendance being 80%) the tutor enters the module in the CIOB Site Management Record provided to every student.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of the Level 3 Certificate course will allow progression to the Level 4 Diploma courses and subsequently any further construction based Higher Education courses. Completion of the Level 4 Diploma can also enable entry to Associate Membership of CIOB (ACIOB).

How To Apply
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Part-Time+ Course Benefits
