City & Guilds 6055 Leadworkers Certificate (Modules 1 to 4)
This traditional lead workers course has been designed for those who want to acquire the skills for working lead sheet and the knowledge of the design, repair and maintenance of lead work used in roofing, cladding and weathering applications.
The course is broken down into five separate modules allowing students flexibility in the pattern of attendance at the training centre. Therefore the time required to complete the course may vary according to the ability and experience of the students.
The course will be mainly practical with related technology integrated with lectures covering design repair, maintenance, fire prevention, and ventilation details for roof structures.

On completion of the course delegates should know the health and safety procedures for working with lead sheet and be able to form leadwork details by bossing and welding to a wide range of flashing, weatherings and roofing applications and allow students to gain a recognised qualification for their skills.

While there are no special entry requirements this course would be useful for roofing and building contractors who want to become more skilled in the prefabrication and installation of typical lead flashing details.

The Modules
Module I Flashing Details Duration 5 Days
This module would be more suited to those who may have some experience of working lead sheet, and want to improve their skills and related technology to carry out production and installation of lead sheet flashings for slate and tiled roofs. The module will include prefabrication and installation of flashings to chimneystacks, pitched valley gutters, and lean-to abutments.
Module 2 Weatherings Duration 10 Days
Seen as the next natural progression in developing skills in lead work for those wanting to become more competent in installing box and tapered gutter linings, and fitting lead sheet to parapets and cornices, in line with current advice and recommendations.
Module 3 Flat and Pitched Roofs Duration 10 Days
This module provides students with the opportunity to form and fix lead sheet using the different jointing techniques suitable for various roof pitches, and will include up to date information on the current recommended practice for detailing at drips and abutments, when wood cored, or hollow rolls are used. Special consideration will be given in the module to detailing ventilation of roof voids to comply with British Standards and Building Regulations.
Module 4 Cladding and Dormers Duration 10 Days
This module will allow students to obtain the skills required to become a competent leadworker. Students will be able to detail vertical cladding around window openings, and cover different types of dormer window projections.
Satisfactory completion of all the four Modules allows for the final City & Guilds Leadworkers Certificate to be issued.
Advanced City & Guilds 6055 Leadworkers Certificate
Module 5 Decorative Leadwork Duration 15 Days
This part of the City & Guilds qualification provides the opportunity for more experienced Leadworkers to carry out more complex leadwork to spires cupolas and curved structures. Sand casting techniques required for making rainwater heads and forming and fixing lead rainwater pipes typically used on historic and listed buildings. To attend this module you will have to be a holder of the City & Guilds 6055 Leadworkers Certificate.
