Course programme
Course description: There are four different trades covered as part of this course: electrical, plumbing, carpentry and brickwork. It also covers the compulsory aspects of health and safety within the industry.
Your course is designed in three separate elements, vocational, personal and social development and functional skills. It is designed to allow maximum time developing various practical skills needed in the construction industry.
The course is made up of different units, which include:
Starting work in construction
Health, safety and welfare in construction
Working as a team
Developing joinery skills
Developing bricklaying skills
Developing electrical installation skills
Developing plumbing skills
You will also take functional skills in English, maths and ICT.
Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this course but students should have an interest in the construction trades.
Objective: This course will encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you need for work and help you achieve your full potential whilst giving you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in the construction sector and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Assessment: There will be assessment of practical tasks and online end of unit assessments, students will also be required to complete an external online examination. Your behaviour and attendance while on your Level 1 course will also be assessed.
Academic progression: After the course you could take a different Level 1 qualification or progress to the Level 2 Craft Diploma in Bricklaying.
Career progression: This course will give you the basic understanding of different skills required in the building sector. Successful students could move into employment or apply for an apprenticeship.
Costs: For UK students aged under 19 years old on the 31st August prior to the start of your course, your tuition fees are free.
UK students aged 19 years or over on the 31st August prior to the start of your course, will need to pay tuition fees as well as any equipment, uniform and exam fees. Some adults may be eligible for free tuition.
There will be costs for overalls, protective footwear and stationary.
