Unit 309 - Carry out Aerial Tree Rigging
This unit will explain how to evaluate the tree for hazards as well as performing an assessment of working at height. This will identify the correct selection of rigging equipment to be used. Then the safe removal of tree sections using suitable rigging and appropriate cuts.
Entry Criteria
Pre-requisite units are
Unit 201 (CS 30.1)
Unit 202 (CS 30.2)
Unit 203 (CS 31)
Unit 206 (CS 38 Basic Climbing)
Unit 306 (CS38 Aerial Rescue)
Unit 308 (CS 39)
Assessment
Assessments will be arranged to take place after training has been completed (usually the following week).
You will be given the date and time during the training
Compulsory Equipment Required for "Use of Chainsaw" Courses
Helmet (EN 12492) with chin strap, ear defenders and mesh visor ( complying with EN1731) (not exceeding 3 years old)
Chainsaw protective gloves* complying with EN 381-7
Chainsaw Trousers* –Type C to include Tree climbing Work ( Chaps are not acceptable)
Chainsaw Boots* complying with EN345-2 (spats are not acceptable)
* These items should carry the CE chainsaw logo
Personal First Aid Kit (containing a large wound dressing)
Whistle
Sharp Knife
Suitable outdoor clothing including waterproofs, you should be prepared for all weather conditions.
Hi-visibility vest, short sleeved is fine.

Climbing equipment and climbing chainsaws are available for use. If you would like to use your own climbing equipment, it will be at the discretion of the Tutor and must have all the current LOLER certificates.
Felling sites maybe up to 1 hours drive from the main college and therefore to access these you must have your own transport (buses are not suitable)

Level 3 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm
Additional Information
The fees include NPTC administration, registration and assessment charges. Any re-tests are not included
**It is important that you have a higher than average level of fitness and advisable that you have first aid training before undertaking this course.**
