Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at
A*-C apply. Students will ideally have achieved a B grade in English Language/Literature or History.

Aim This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to study Greek and Roman Civilisation through a wide range of topics including history, politics and society, literature, philosophy and values. Students will develop a range of analytic, interpretative and communication skills that can be applied to a wide selection of subjects.
Content
At AS three units are taken each worth 33.3% of the qualification. All three units are examined in a 90 minute examination. The examination is in two parts. Section A (context question). Section B (essay question).
Unit 1
The Greek Epic: The Iliad and The Odyssey.
Unit 2
Roman Satire and Society: Juvenal and Pliny.
Unit 3
Roman Britain: The Occupation & Tacitus Agricola.
A residential trip to Greece/Italy will form part of the enrichment offered by this AS.
Progression/career opportunities
This course is only offered at AS but will enhance progression opportunities to HE, particularly for students intending to study English or History.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
