You will work directly from a model to create a small sculpture in clay which will be fired after the end of the course. This course will concentrate on one pose giving you ample time to develop your observation and extend your skills.

About this course

Course programme

- Simple anatomy
- Using clay effectively to create a small sculpture
- Preparing the sculpture for firing.

You will mainly be taught on an individual basis, with some group discussion. The emphasis will be on practice with guidance. All materials for the course are provided. You must wear stout shoes in the sculpture studio. The sculpture department offers a programme of courses that will allow you to progress from beginner to advanced as well as mastering a range of techniques. For example, we offer courses that concentrate on modelling from the figure and/or portrait , introduction to casting and mould making, carving in wood or stone or introduction to prop making for film and theatre. The year-long City Lit sculpture course - VU841 or Sculpturestudio:develop personal work will help you to build an individual sculpture practice where more independent practice is encouraged.
