About the Course
This is a one-year course, mainly practical, with the flexibility to include many sports decided by the group. An important part of the course is the ten hours voluntary leadership, undertaken in local schools or clubs, which will give you the opportunity to learn leadership skills, and to provide voluntary assistance alongside qualified coaches and teachers, thereby increasing your own knowledge, experience and confidence of coaching.
You will learn:
* How to plan and organise a series of sporting activities.
* Various ways of improving fitness for sport.
* How to organise and participate in different sorts of competition.
* How to improve and use minor games.
* The basics of different sports and activities.
* The basics of first aid and sports injuries.
* Who to approach if you need information on sport, recreation and leisure and the structure of sport in the UK.

How is the course assessed?
Continuous assessment and practical teaching assessment in the spring term.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may progress to the Higher Sports
Leadership Award. This is also a very useful qualification if you are interested in a career in the civilian or military services or any people orientateted career in which teamwork and leadership skills are important.
