The CompEx Foundation course is a specialised training programme aimed at Technical Assistants, Supervisors, Contract Managers and Senior Management.
This is a nationally recognised qualification offering underpinning knowledge. The course provides an overview of the requirements of achieving and maintaining safe installations in hazardous areas, enabling a greater appreciation of the hazards associated with working in explosive atmospheres and the promotion of safe working practices.
Staff attending this course often work in potentially explosive environments such as:
On and off-shore oil and gas installations, Petrochemical plants, Distilleries, Petrol forecourt environments, Mills and other dust generating environments.

About this course
Technical Assistants, Supervisors, Contract Managers and Senior Management
This course contains no practical skills training or practical assessment and is therefore suited to anyone involved in hazardous area work who does not carry out installation or inspection of electrical equipment. Unlike the other CompEx courses, no prior knowledge of hazardous areas is required for full participation in this course.
Upon successful completion of the course and examination a nationally recognised core competence certification for hazardous areas will be issued.

Course programme
The course will cover many areas relating to safe working practices in potentially explosive environments and will include, but not be limited to, legislation, including the atex directives, standards and codes of practice, area classification of the plant, permit to work, potential sources of ignition, ignition properties of substances and the selection and use of approved equipment for use in such areas, including installation and maintenance issues.
