This course offers a comprehensive and creative approach to extend your abilities in using line, tone, texture and composition to create exciting drawings from observation. While using a variety of drawing materials and experimenting with different approaches to drawing, you will be encouraged to develop your compositional skills and use drawing as a tool to develop your individual ideas.

Course programme

- Proportional measuring, composition and basic perspective
- Expressive properties of charcoal, pencil and other drawing materials
- Use of tone and texture to suggest form
- Gesture and mark-making
- Developing ideas and using drawing as an exploratory tool.

Demonstration and practical application. One to one and group discussion. Basic materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring any extra or special materials. You can continue to VM909 Drawing and painting studio: intermediate to advanced on Saturdays in Term 3. Or you may join any of the other Drawing and Painting courses at City Lit.
