Computer Maintenance & Networking IT Essentials 1 and 2
Course summary:

Course content:
This course is in two parts:- Semester 1 & 2
OCR Level 2 Certification for IT Practitioners Unit 7 (24 weeks):
IT Essentials I will provide the student with an understanding of the processes involved in installing, configuring, upgrading and troubleshooting the hardware and software in a computer
system and will cover:-
· Installing, configuring and upgrading hardware in a computer system.
· Installing, configuring and upgrading software in a computer system.
· Diagnosing and trouble shooting computer system hardware.
· Preventative maintenance.
OCR Level 3 Certification for IT Practitioners Unit 14 (16 weeks):
IT Essentials II will provide the student with an understanding of network concepts, operating systems,
and physical components and will cover:-
· Network operating system fundamentals
· Network concepts and components
· Concepts and application of TCP/IP protocol
· Network services
· Network administrative tasks
· Network security
Assessment procedure:
To achieve each of the IT Essentials certificates, candidates will sit on-line examinations, externally set and marked.
The examinations take the form of multiple choice papers for each of the modules.
Qualifications achieved:
The qualifications provided by this course, CISCO IT Essentials I & II, are internationally recognised and , as well as being excellent qualifications in their own right, are acknowledged as valuable introductions to both Microsoft and CISCO courses.
Progression opportunities:
This qualification prepares students for employment in jobs involving computer and network installation, configuration and repair.
