Course programme

This programme is for you if you want to learn how to develop systems that can grow to meet new and changing needs in modern business environments and in arts, media and cultural applications. It also provides a route to a variety of higher degrees in the computing and information systems sector.

You will be required to make a serious attempt in the examination for 12 full (11 units plus the compulsory project), taken from the list below:

Year 1

Four compulsory full units:

Year 2

Four compulsory full units:

Six half units

Note: The course structure and fees shown above are subject to changes. Not all units will necessarily be available in every year. Registering as an external student with UOL and for the examination is entirely separate from enrolment on MGC courses. You should visit college and relevant university websites for up-to-date information. The student must seek and obtain a certificate of eligibility from the university before obtaining an unconditional offer letter from MGC and pay the application, registration, exam, exemption (if any) and other fees to the university directly.

Independent study demands that you are motivated, well-organised and focused. We advise that to complete in the minimum study period you will need devote at least 250 hours of study to each full course unit.

Entry Requirement:

Applicants who did not have English as the formal language of instruction are expected to demonstrate a reasonable command of the language by taking a TOEFL or an IELTS test (for a TOEFL a score of 580 (or 237 on the computerised test) plus the Test of Written English (TWE) with a score of 4.5 (or a Writing Rating of 4.5 in the computerised test); for an IELTS test an overall score of at least 6 is achieved with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-test). Applicants who don't have TOEFL or IELTS can undertake an intensive Pre-course English Language or EFL at College.

Work Experience Entry Route to BSc Computing and Information Systems

To be eligible for the Work Experience Entry Route you must:

  • be aged 21 years or older before 1 September in the year you first register with the University (there can be no exceptions to this requirement) and
  • have passed a minimum of four separate subjects at GCSE/GCE ‘O' level (at not less than Grade C) including Mathematics and
  • provide proof of competency in English acceptable to the University (it may be necessary for you to have passed a recognised test of proficiency, at the appropriate level, within the past three years) and
  • have at least two years relevant work experience (i.e. with computing or IT elements either from a job in a computing-oriented company or a job in computing or IT).

Payment options: Tuition Fee: UK Residing Students £2,500.00 per year Total Tuition Fees for 3 years £7,500.00 Overseas Students £3,000.00 per year Total Tuition Fees for 3 years £9,000.00 The total fee payable to the University is £3,766 (includes non-refundable application handling fee of £56) if you complete in the minimum study period. Besides the fees payable to the University and the College, you should also budget for textbooks (this may well be in the region of £300 per year).
