About this course

Entry requirements(typical offer) 240 UCAS points from at least two A2-levels (or equivalent) in any subjects, or successful completion of the Engineering Foundation Year.

You should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) in any subjects.

For direct entry to Level 2 students should have successfully completed a HND/HNC in Building or Construction.

Foundation degree graduates will normally be granted advanced entry to Level 3, following completion of balancing studies.

About the course

Your learning will be through a mix of approaches that includes practical work in the studio, field and laboratory work as well as project work, lectures, seminars and tutorials. Assessment methods include coursework, presentations, project portfolios and examinations.

The school offers an extensive range of surveying equipment and materials testing laboratories. In addition, you will be able to use the facilities in the university’s unique Design Studio which contains the latest CAD software and hardware.

All the teaching staff are construction industry professionals with extensive experience and knowledge of the industry and they are all active in the industry’s professional bodies.

As the school has close contacts with the industry you may have the opportunity to take part in site visits. Professionals from the construction industry, including former students, regularly give talks and lectures on the course.

What you will learn

This broad-based course offers you the opportunity to learn the practical and theoretical skills necessary to pursue a career in a variety of construction disciplines for example building surveying, quantity surveying, construction, property management and architectural technology.

You will also have the opportunity to learn relevant applied business skills such as communications, IT, construction industry management, report writing and making professional presentations.

What you will study

You will study a mix of core and optional modules where the key themes are skills development and construction industry technology. You will be required to achieve a total of 120 credits at each level. You will select your optional modules based on discussions with your course tutor.
